A little bit about
our background...
My name is Gary Cumro and my wife Sharon and I
live in historic
Gilpin County Colorado. We enjoy designing and building items out
of metal, wood, glass, plastic or a combination of these materials.
To satisfy a personal itch, I prototyped my first giant fish
hook in 2004. I showed the fish hook to my friends at first and
then to some local fly fishing shops.
I founded GAC Design Inc
in the
fall of 2005. Each fish hook is hand crafted
from solid steel with a forged eye and barb and is virtually
indestructible. Fish hooks can be displayed using our mounting plaques
or, if desired, mounted directly to a wall.
These fish hooks will
definitely add a distinctive touch to the décor in your den,
office, or cabin. They also make a great conversation piece and
would be the perfect gift for the angler in your family. They are the
ideal gift for Father's Day.

Creating
this giant fish hook has allowed me to
combine three passions of my life: designing, fishing, and metal work.
From my
youth on, when I wasn't fishing I was designing, building, or
repairing things. My parents always kept me busy whether it was
fixing the toaster, lawnmower, or family car. I attended college
and majored in Mechanical Engineering. My first job was writing
numerical control code for various machines and before long I had
saved enough money to buy my first 1948 Logan metal lathe with
milling attachment at a local auction. One month later I had built
my first fishing reel. I found that with a little imagination I
could make just about anything. I spent the next 20 years working
for various companies as a design, manufacturing or project
engineer. During this time I acquired a milling machine, welder,
forge, band saw, torch, and a second lathe. |
While
fishing the Colorado river, I came up with the idea of making a
large fish hook for wall mounting. Once I had an inventory of
several hundred fish hooks I decided to see what else I could do with
them. By arranging the fish hooks into different patterns I built a
table lamp and wall clock. My
engineering background has enabled me to design and build the
equipment needed to manufacture the fish hooks in my shop. All fish
hook forming and forging equipment is custom made using a
combination of engineering and blacksmithing techniques. |
Stained glass by
Sharon...
Sharon has worked
with stained glass
over 20 years and has added her touch by combining the fish hook with
glass to create several versions of the stained glass fly. All stained
glass art is
created using the copper foil technique which allows for intricate
designs. Each product is handmade in the USA by Gary and
Sharon. |
